Volunteer

Join us

We are always looking for new volunteers to help keep our service operating at a high standard.

If you’re motivated to assist members of your community by helping to keep those on or near our beautiful Felixstowe coastline and surrounding areas safe and have a passion to promote water safety, then we would love to hear from you!

Most of our volunteers take part in operational duties and marine patrols, but there are plenty of other roles in the team, including fundraising, training, administration and shore support.

We’re a friendly, welcoming and accommodating team, and pride ourselves on promoting diversity.

LIFEBOAT CREW

We are not currently inviting new applicants onto the lifeboat crew as we have a limit to the number of crew we need. However, please look at the other essential roles in the wider team below…

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT / SHORE CREW

Don’t fancy being on the boat? Don’t worry – we also have a very important operational support/shore crew who help with maintaining the lifeboat, trailer and Land Rover, as well as liaising with other emergency services, launching and recovering the lifeboat, washing down, refuelling, etc.

FUNDRAISING / OUTREACH TEAM

Without fundraisers, we can’t operate. Felixstowe Lifeboat relies 100% on donations to keep the team afloat, so fundraising is instrumental to our success. Our fundraisers regularly attend local events to raise our public profile and seek opportunities to apply for grants. The team, along with the lifeboat and shore support crew, also visit schools to teach/promote water safety.

Marine experience is not essential, but you must be able to attend training sessions and pass DBS checks.
